Remote access to the UC Berkeley Campus provides remote connectivity using the GlobalProtect VPN software. When connected, users are assigned a UC Berkeley Campus network address. This is necessary because many resources, such as research journals and business systems, require users to have a Campus network address for access.
Depending on what users need to access, there are two selectable gateways that can be used for access
- Split Tunnel (default): routes only required campus traffic through the VPN while allowing other traffic to use your local internet connection.
- Library and Full Tunnel: routes all network traffic through the VPN for broader access to restricted resources.
Installing GlobalProtect can be done using multiple methods:
- bIT Managed desktops can use BigFix (Windows) or Self Service (macOS) to install the current software client
- Personal and self managed devices can log into https://vpn.berkeley.edu with their CalNet credentials and download the client to install themselves [Instructions: Windows macOS
